Ottawa’s Escapade Music Festival attracted nearly 15,000 people this past Canada Day Weekend and was by far the biggest EDM festival the city has ever seen. Its success put the EDM spotlight on Canada’s capital and, now, the spotlight is on Nick Vachon – co-founder of DNA Presents (the organizers behind the festival).

Police are expected to issue a warrant Wednesday for Nick Vachon, 26, one of the founding partners of DNA Presents, the company that staged the two-day festival. Vachon has not been seen or heard from since early Monday morning, when the proceeds from the festival’s ticket sales were discovered missing.

A safe at festival venue Ottawa Stadium was found empty early that morning by some of the other DNA partners. It is believed that more than $600,000 is missing.

“I am heartbroken,” said Michael O’Farrell, one of five partners in the company.

“This just crushed us, we can’t believe it. We had such a great event and now this happened. I don’t even know how to cope with it right now,” said O’Farrell.

Most of DNA Presents’ fans are attacking Vachon, accusing him of stealing the $600K from his partners, which is understandable because there’s no way to paint a pretty picture around a man who disappears on the same day $600K is stolen from the safe he has access to. On the other hand, the money could have been stolen by an outside party which would mean Nick Vachon is in actual danger so all speculation right now is purely that – speculation.
If, however, Nick did steal $600K from his trusted partners and skipped town, he’s Ottawa’s biggest jackass because even though $600K is a nice amount of money, it’s not a big enough sum to rely on forever. Plus, by the looks of it, Vachon (oh the irony) is a plumpy fella and since $600K is worth approximately 142,857 Big Macs, Nick Vachon will come crawling back – broke, sad, ashamed, and hungry in no time.

I love food and music. If my dinner could sing to me, I'd marry it. I like to pretend like the world is a music video for the song I'm listening to. I don't sleep because the only people who can get enough done in 24 hours are under the age of 3. Tupac wondered if heaven has a ghetto but I wonder if hell is reincarnating as a turtle. Creativity is what drives me and inspiration is my fuel. I dream of world peace and candy but I'll take great music over both any day.
