Stevie Steps Out: Dirty South @ Marquee Sydney

Who: Dirty South
Location: Marquee – Sydney, Australia
Dirty South is one of those producers who can churn out a remix or single so well that it makes my knees feel weak. Despite the fact that the concert was last week (give me a break I just moved from NYC to Sydney!), I can easily close my eyes and be there again. I walked in right around midnight and as I headed my way to dance floor, about ten people shuffle behind the DJ booth holding blank posters – initially I thought protest (what would you think after a few long island iced teas?!?!), but much to my delight as they turned around the signs it spelled out DIRTY SOUTH.
After pushing my way through the very scantily clad middle eastern ladies crowding the DJ booth, I stood in awe of the music that Mr. South was pumping through the speakers. Maybe I am biased because I have loved Dirty (yeah we are on a first name basis) since I was in high school – but by the looks of the people around me, it was simply amazing. The crowd stood facing the performer and danced with giant styrofoam glow sticks sucking the music in. I don’t have any religious affiliations but I am pretty sure I met God that night. It was just one of those experiences that ring in your mind for weeks and weeks.
My one seed of sadness is that he only played for about two hours but at least it was amazing – you can’t put a time on that sort of experience.
Moral of the story: If Dirty South is playing anyway near your location – go!
